HUMAS FH-USU: On Monday–Tuesday, June 22–23, 2026, the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian issues and refugee protection through a strategic collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Indonesia. The commitment was demonstrated through a Community Consultation held at the Faculty of Law USU and the signing of an Implementation Agreement (IA) as part of efforts to strengthen institutional cooperation.
During the activity, UNHCR also invited representatives from Universitas Sumatera Utara, represented by Dr. Rosmalinda, S.H., LL.M., CIM, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law USU.
The Community Consultation involved representatives of refugees and asylum seekers, community leaders, and UNHCR partners in Medan. The forum was organized to explore opportunities to strengthen livelihood support and self-reliance among refugees living in various shelters and refugee communities across Medan.
The activities took place over two days, with discussion sessions divided according to participant groups, including self-reliant or economically active refugees, refugees who still require livelihood support, representatives of refugee communities, as well as UNHCR partners and community leaders. This participatory approach is expected to generate comprehensive input for developing more effective and sustainable refugee empowerment programs.
On the same occasion, FH USU and UNHCR also signed an Implementation Agreement (IA) as a concrete follow-up to the cooperation between the two institutions. The signing of the IA provides a foundation for implementing various joint programs in education, capacity building, legal studies, and community service activities related to refugee and asylum seeker issues.
Through this collaboration, the Faculty of Law USU reaffirms its role as a higher education institution that actively contributes to strengthening humanitarian values, justice, and human rights protection, while supporting UNHCR’s efforts to improve the well-being and self-reliance of refugee communities in Indonesia.
