Public Relations FH-USU: (11 – 16/12/2024)

The delegation of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), conducted a working visit to the Faculty of Law, University of New South Wales (UNSW), University of Sydney, University of Melbourne, and the Supreme Court in Australia. The FH USU delegation consisted of the Dean of FH USU, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, SH., M.Hum; Head of the Doctoral Study Program in Law, Prof. Dr. Ningrum N. Sirait, SH., MLI.; Head of the Master of Law Study Program, Prof. Dr. Saidin, SH., M.Hum.; Vice Dean I, Dr. Agusmidah, SH., M.Hum.; Secretary of the Doctoral Study Program in Law, Dr. T. Keizerina Devi, SH., M.Hum, CN.; and Secretary of the Master of Law Study Program, Dr. Mahmud Mulyadi, SH., M.Hum.; and Professor of USU Law Faculty, Prof. Dr. Sutiarnoto, SH., M.Hum.

This working visit is a commitment of USU Law Faculty to realize the internationalization program mandated in USU's Strategic Plan and the 2024 USU Rector's Priority Work Program. USU Law Faculty's efforts to gradually gain international recognition will be complicated if USU Law Faculty is not part of international relations. To enter into international relations, it is certainly necessary to develop networking with various law faculties that have international reputations. With the formation of this networking, it is hoped that it will bring USU Law Faculty into the arena of interaction between law faculties between countries.

On Wednesday (11/12/2024), the USU FH Delegation was received at the UNSW School of Law and Justice and held a meeting attended by all members of the USU FH delegation. The UNSW School of Law and Justice was represented by Professor Deborah Healey and Professor Weihuan Zhou, each as Co-director of the China International Business and Economic Law (CIBEL) Center School of Law and Justice UNSW.

The activity was held in the main building of the Law & Justice Building, UNSW Sydney, Kensington, NSW 2052, Australia, with the agenda, namely, Campus Touring activities at the UNSW School of Law and Justice, Meeting with representatives of the UNSW School of Law and Justice to discuss various plans for cooperation between the UNSW School of Law and Justice and the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara, and the Signing of the MoA and Implementation Agreement between USU FH and the China International Business and Economic Law (CIBEL) Center School of Law and Justice UNSW.

On Thursday (12/12/2024), the USU FH Delegation was received at the University of Sydney Faculty of Law and held a meeting attended by all members of the USU FH delegation and representing the School of Law Sydney University was one of the Vice Deans who was accompanied by Prof. Simon Butt, Professor of Indonesian Law, Director of the Center for Asian and Pacific Law, University of Sydney Law School.

The agenda of the Faculty of Law Delegation during this working visit was Campus and Library Touring at the School of Law Sydney University, Meeting and discussion with Prof. Simon Butt, Professor of Indonesian Law, Director of the Center for Asian and Pacific Law, University of Sydney Law School (CAPLUS), Meeting and discussion with the vice dean of the School of Law Sydney University, and Signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara and the Center for Asian and Pacific Law, University of Sydney Law School.

On Monday (16/12/2024), the USU FH Delegation was received at the School of Law - Melbourne University and held a series of meetings with representatives of the School of Law - Melbourne University, namely Professor Michelle Foster, Dean of the School of Law - Melbourne University, and Professor Tim Lindsey AO FAHA FAIIA, Redmond Barry Distinguished Professor Malcolm Smith Professor of Asian Law, Director, Center for Indonesian Law, Islam and Society, Executive Editor, Australian Journal of Asian Law. The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and Implementation Agreement signed by the Dean of the USU FH and the Center for Indonesian Law, Islam and Society School of Law - Melbourne University gave birth to various commitments that will be implemented in the following years.

On the same day, the USU FH Delegation ended its working visit by visiting the Supreme Court in Melbourne, Australia. There, they had the opportunity to review the atmosphere of the trial.

A series of working visits conducted by the USU FH Delegation produced a cooperation agreement in the form of a Memorandum of Agreement with the Center for Asian and Pacific Law, University of Sydney Law School, the Director of the Center for Asian and Pacific Law, University of Sydney Law School, and the Center for Indonesian Law, Islam and Society, as well as several collaboration commitments.

This working visit opens the door to forming a cooperation network between USU's FH and various institutions and law faculties with international reputations. In the future, by following up on various concrete collaborative commitments and maintaining good communication with partners, this working visit will have an essential and significant impact on the development of USU and the Faculty of Law.
