FH-USU Public Relations: Wednesday (20/07/2022), The 4th session of the Summer Course Program 2022, the Law faculty of USU invited Prof. Dr. Runtung SH., M.Hum as a speaker for a topic with Rakut Sitelu. This program was held hybrid. The core series of activities consisted of presentations by a speaker and a live question-and-answer (Q&A) session led by Dr. Robert, SH., M.H, and Siti Khairunnisa, SH.,M.H, lecturer at law faculty USU as moderator.
Prof. Dr. Runtung, SH., M.Hum is a USU Faculty of Law professor specializing in Customary Law. He was appointed Dean of Law faculty at USU from 2005 to 2010. He also served as Rector of USU (2016 – 2021). In his presentation, Prof. Runtung started by introducing the term "Rakut Sitelu", which in Indonesian means ikatan ketiga
The term "Rakut Sitelu" is known for the Karo, one of the ethnic groups that came from the Batak ethnic group, as he said. Furthermore, Prof. Runtung explained another Batak communities, such as Batak Toba, Batak Mandailing, there is a known term "Dalihan Na Tolu" which is similar to "Rakut Sitelu". The definition of Rakut Sitelu in the Karo community is often referred to as "Sangkep Sitelu" (three complete) or "Sangkep Nggeluh" (a complete life ) is three binding elements with kindship in the Karo ethnicity. Therefore, "Rakut Sitelu" is a very important element in the Karo people known since the existence of the Karo ethnicity. It is still alive and preserved to this day. In explanation, Prof. Runtung pointed out the roles and responsibilities of each element in Rakut Sitelu, which consists of Senina / Sembuyak, Kalimbubu, and Anak Berutiga.
