FH-USU PR: Wednesday (29/05/2024), "Indonesia Youth Diplomacy (IYD) Local Chapter North Sumatra and International Law Student Association (ILSA) Faculty of Law USU held a talk show with the theme "Understanding The Role of Consulates and Diplomacy In The Era of Globalization and Career Opportunities", located in the International Smart Classroom of the Faculty of Law USU and attended by more than 60 participants."
The event was attended by the Dean of the USU Faculty of Law, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S. H., M. Hum., Consul of the United States of America for Sumatra, Mr. Bernard C. Uadan, Consul General of Malaysia, Mr. Shahril Nizam Abdul Malek, and Lecturer of the USU Faculty of Law, Dr. Jelly Leviza, S. H., M.Hum.
In his remarks and opening the event, the Dean of the Faculty of Law said that this event could be attended by students majoring in law and all students who had an interest in diplomacy.
This talk show was held to provide an in-depth understanding of how consulates play a role in Indonesia, especially North Sumatra. This event also presented information on how diplomacy plays a role in the era of globalization. Some topics discussed in this talk show included how consulates work, tips on becoming a diplomat and the role of diplomacy in world peace. "When diplomacy ends, war begins" quoted one of the speakers, Dr. Jelly Leviza, S. H., M. Hum., this sentence is quite famous in the world of diplomacy and means that diplomacy plays a vital role in global welfare.
Each speaker also shared their personal experiences, from personal experiences as diplomats to their challenges. One of the speakers, the United States Consulate, Mr. Bernard C. Uadan, said that he not only learned a country's language but also how that country's culture. The Malaysian Consulate General, Mr. Shahril Nizam Abdul Malek, said that consuls work by talking; they talk about many things, including economic, social, defense, and security.
This talk show session was also two-way, and students were allowed to ask questions of the speakers. At the end of the session, students who asked questions received a prize.
