The Department of State Administration Law, together with the State Administration Law Student Association (IMAHARA) Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), held a Webinar with the theme “Job Creation Law; Implications for Business and Labor.”

The webinar activity was carried out online through Zoom meetings opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Law USU, Prof.Dr. Budiman Ginting, SH., M.Hum. and was also attended by the Head of the State Administration Law Department Dr. Agusmidah S.H., M.Hum as the keynote speaker.

In his remarks, the Dean of FH USU, Prof.Dr. Budiman Ginting, SH, M. Hum explained that this Webinar Activity is one solution for students during a pandemic to continue to learn, broaden their horizons, and practice public speaking. He hopes that Webinar activities like this can continue and become a breakthrough for students to always work and make the alma mater proud.

This webinar involved speakers from various backgrounds, including associations of young entrepreneurs, labor unions, and students.

As the keynote speaker, Dr. Agusmidah S.H., M.Hum explained there were many debates in forming this Job Creation Law. Many parties consider the Job Creation Law flawed both procedurally and in its content, violating the existing laws' principles. Vatar Reynaldo from IMAHARA FH USU explained that with the existence of this Job Creation Law, it is hoped that workers must better understand how to negotiate and make quality Collective Labor Regulations that are not detrimental to employers and workers. After that, the next speaker, Asyraful Rizal from the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association of USU Universities (HIPMI PT USU) in his explanation argued that with the passing of the Job Creation Law, business licensing was made easier so that business actors were easy to run their businesses or open new businesses to create new jobs. Then Martin Luis from the Indonesian Federation of Labor Struggle (FPBI) said that the Government through the passing of the Job Creation Law did not study from the side of the workforce, the Government which should prioritize the interests of its people instead prioritized entrepreneurs. The last speaker, Anas Alfarizi, the USU Student Government Vice President, explained that from the time the Job Creation Law was presented to the public until its ratification, it was problematic and caused polemics in the community. He argues that the Job Creation Law does not favor workers and is contrary to the Manpower Law. Therefore, students must be sensitive and dare to voice their opinions for the welfare of society.

This webinar was hosted by Elisabet Chalvien Purba as MC and moderated by Putri Aulia Sinaga, both members of IMAHARA FH USU. This event started at 15.00 WIB, was attended by around 100 participants, and was broadcast live via the IMAHARA FH USU YouTube channel. Until the end of the event at 17.30 WIB, the discussion continued in an orderly and smooth manner. The message conveyed at the end of this webinar is that the ratification of the Job Creation Law has positive and negative impacts for both employers and workers; it is hoped that the Government will open a space for dialogue to discuss this Job Creation Law and pay more attention to the welfare of workers.
