FH-USU PR: Tuesday, (18/01/2022), as part of the Scientific Week commemorating the 68th Anniversary of the Faculty of Law of Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH-USU), the second Legal Reflection Webinar Series was held with the theme "The Role of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia (KEMENKUMHAM RI) in the Development and Supervision of the Notary Position in Line with the Principle of Equality Before The Law." The webinar, conducted via Zoom, featured distinguished speakers including the Head of the Master's Program in Notary, Prof. Dr. Hasim Purba, S.H., M.Hum, the Director of Civil Affairs from the Directorate General of General Legal Administration at KEMENKUMHAM RI, Santun Maspari Siregar, S.H., M.H., and a Notary as well as Lecturer at FH-USU, Dr. Suprayitno, S.H., M.Kn. The session was moderated by the Secretary of the Master's Program in Notary, Prof. Dr. Rosnidar Sembiring, S.H., M.Hum. The webinar attracted participants from various sectors, including notaries, students of the master's program in notary, academics from USU and other universities, and other stakeholders.
The Dean of FH-USU, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum, in his opening remarks, stated that this event marked the second day of the Scientific Week organized by the Anniversary Committee to celebrate the 68th Anniversary of FH-USU. He emphasized the importance of the day's topic, focusing on the development and supervision of notaries. He explained that the notary profession is regulated by law and directly serves the public, making it a vital service. Thus, the webinar aims to discuss ensuring adequate supervision and guidance for notaries so that the public is not disadvantaged and notaries themselves are protected. He hoped the event would benefit everyone, including the general public, FH-USU, and the nation.
USU Vice-Rector I, Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., in his speech, conveyed appreciation on behalf of the Rector of USU for the discussion about the positioning of notaries and their relationship with the authority of KEMENKUMHAM RI in the context of supervision and guidance in Indonesia. He highlighted the unique role of the notary profession in society as public officials who must be highly adaptive to contemporary developments. He hoped this second event of the Scientific Week would broaden perspectives and encourage aspiring notaries to understand that they cannot operate without restrictions. He also emphasized the need for KEMENKUMHAM RI to remain committed to enforcing existing regulations and taking decisive action on recommendations from the Notary Supervisory Council.
The Vice-Rector concluded his speech by expressing his hopes for the event's continued success. (laks/dmk)
