Public Relations FH USU: Wednesday–Friday (August 13–15, 2025), the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), held the 2025 Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB), a three-day event attended by around 572 new FH USU students (MABA) from different admission pathways, including SNBP, SNBT, SMM-PTN Barat, and the Independent Selection.
The first day of PKKMB FH USU 2025 began with the Opening Ceremony at the USU Mini Stadium, where all FH USU first-year students joined new students from other faculties. The ceremony was officially opened by the Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si. In his remarks, the Rector encouraged all participants to see their time at USU as a path to obtaining a degree and as an opportunity to create innovations and solutions for real societal challenges. “USU is not only a place to learn theories but also a space to sharpen social awareness, build global networks, and prepare to become future leaders,” stated Prof. Muryanto Amin.

After the ceremony, FH USU first-year students, guided by the PKKMB FH USU 2025 committee, proceeded to the FH USU campus, where the Dean and faculty leadership warmly welcomed them. In his address, the Dean of FH USU, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum., advised all first-year students to become adaptive and dignified students capable of facing change challenges while continuously fostering creativity.
“The Faculty of Law USU provides internationally standardized classrooms and open learning spaces such as the green and conducive garden class for sharing and creative discussions. Students also have access to the Hukumonline Corner, a digital legal platform that offers comprehensive and up-to-date legal information, supporting academic activities such as research and thesis writing. This facility helps students deepen their understanding of coursework and stay abreast of legal developments,” explained the Dean.

The Dean also highlighted the variety of student activity units (UKM) available at FH USU, including the Learning Enthusiasts Association (GEMBEL), the Moot Court Community (KPS), the Forum for Islamic Scientific Studies (FOSIL), and other platforms that nurture critical, creative, and contributive thinking through activities such as legal counseling, focused discussions, and competitions.
The Committee Chair, Tampati Simbara Galilea Ujung, welcomed the 2025 FH USU first-year students and encouraged them to become reform-minded legal scholars who think critically about the current legal landscape. The first day of PKKMB continued with orientation sessions delivered by FH USU lecturers and alums.
On the second day, Vice Rector I of USU, Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., also a Professor at FH USU, attended and reviewed the PKKMB activities. He urged the first-year students to complete their studies on time in his address. “I am confident that some of you will pursue master’s degrees abroad and others will serve in state institutions or government bodies. As you begin your classes on August 19, 2025, I encourage you to seek your parents’ blessing as a meaningful first step in your academic journey,” he said.
The second day began with a morning assembly where freshmen were briefed by the committee on technical aspects of the program. They then proceeded to the FH USU Hall to attend orientation sessions delivered by lecturers and alums. The day also included an introduction to the various student organizations (UKM) at FH USU. On the third day, the program continued with several activities, including preparations for a paper mob performance for a creative video presentation at the PKKMB closing ceremony, a UKM Expo, a scholarship information session, and a sharing session with the Chair of the FH USU Alumni Association (IKA), Dr. Hasrul Benny Harahap, S.H., M.Hum.

One of the highlights of the final day was a session with Dr. Harli Siregar, S.H., M.Hum., an alumnus of the FH USU class of 1989 and currently the Chief Prosecutor of North Sumatra, who delivered an inspiring message and shared his experiences of achieving success. “Campus is a place to cultivate your mind, but the world will later test your conscience. Ensure that your thoughts and conscience remain aligned. The values you gain here will be tested in the real world, regardless of your profession. The knowledge you acquire must shape a strong character built on a culture of dignity,” emphasized the Chief Prosecutor of North Sumatra.
The conclusion of the PKKMB FH USU 2025 marked the end of a series of events designed to equip new students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential for academic success. The program also aimed to introduce them to USU's higher education system, national values, and the ethics and culture of academic life.
