FH-USU PUBLIC RELATIONS: On Monday, May 4, 2026, the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., officially inaugurated the renovated prayer room of the Faculty of Law (FH) USU as part of the development of worship facilities as well as a space for student activities.

In his remarks, Prof. Muryanto expressed appreciation for the support provided by alumni and donors. He emphasized that the facility now has a broader role. “This prayer room is not only a place of worship, but also a space for character building and academic development for students,” he said.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law USU, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum., explained that the facility holds historical value as a center for student activities, although it had become neglected during the COVID-19 pandemic. “This place used to be very lively as a center for student activities, but it was not well maintained during the pandemic. This renovation is an effort to revive its function,” he explained.

He also noted that the renovation initiative was led by alumni from different generations by reallocating reunion funds. “We hope this prayer room can once again become a place of worship as well as a forum for student discussions and interactions,” he added.

Chairman of the organizing committee, Prof. Dr. Hasim Purba, S.H., M.Hum., stated that the reconstruction of the building, originally established in 1979–1980, has now been completed with a more representative concept. “We designed this building with two floors to accommodate both worship needs and students’ academic activities,” he said.

He explained that the first floor is intended for worship and can accommodate more than 100 worshippers, while the second floor can hold around 200 people for discussions, Islamic studies, and lectures. “In the future, this place will become an integrated center for academic, social, and religious activities,” he added.

The Chairman of the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Law USU (IKA FH USU), Dr. Hasrul Benny Harahap, S.H., M.Hum., described the renovation as a reflection of the spirit of mutual cooperation within the FH USU community. “This is not merely a physical construction project, but also a symbol of togetherness and the alumni’s concern for the campus community,” he said.
