Master's Program (S-2)

The Master's Program in Notary of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is a field of study focusing on civil law, particularly in creating legal documents and agreements between individuals or legal entities. This program has an important role in maintaining the validity and security of legal transactions and protecting the rights of individuals and legal entities. Established in 1971, this study program was originally known as the Notarial Specialist and became one of the oldest notarial master's programs in Indonesia outside of Java. The commitment of the USU Master's Program in Notary is to create skilled human resources and experts in the field of notarial law.

Supported by qualified lecturers, students of the Master's Program in Notary of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) are expected to become the best graduates academically while applying the values of Pancasila and state law in practice. Graduates of the USU Master's Program in Notary Law have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of predecessors and alumni in becoming the best qualified notaries throughout Indonesia. Students who complete this study program will obtain a Master of Notary (M.Kn.) degree as proof of their expertise and understanding in the field of notarial law.

History

2000

The Master’s Program in Notary (M.Kn.) at the Universitas Sumatera Utara Postgraduate School was established based on the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education of the Department of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number 77/Dikti/Kep/2000 dated April 7, 2000.

The Master’s Program in Notary is the only study program outside Java Island that carries out master's and professional education in the field of notarial law and has obtained A accreditation based on BAN-PT Decree No. 016/BAN-PT/AK-V/S2/X/2006 dated October 19, 2006.

2017

Starting from the 2017/2018 academic year, the USU Master’s in Notary uses a curriculum that refers to the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) and the National Higher Education Standards (SN Dikti). This program consists of three types of classes, namely Regular Class, Special Regular Class for those with a Bachelor of Law degree, and Equivalency Class for graduates of Notarial Education (C.N. or Sp.N.). For the Regular Class, students are charged with 41 credits with a minimum study period of 4 semesters and a course load of compulsory courses and elective courses, including thesis writing. For the Equivalency Class, students are charged with 14 credits with a study period of 2 semesters consisting of compulsory courses and elective courses, including thesis writing. The Master’s Program in Notary organizes education that produces graduates with the Master of Notarial Law (M.Kn.) degree whose knowledge is indispensable in various agencies/institutions. As a specialized master's program (Notary), the learning process not only includes academics but also the development of skills that support professional abilities. Graduates of this program can be appointed as Public Officials, Notary and Land Deed Officials (PPAT), Legal Consultants (Law Firm), IPR Consultants (Patent, Brand, Industrial Design, and Copyright), In House Lawyers in banking, and can continue their studies to the Doctoral (S-3) Program in Law Studies and other multidisciplinary doctoral programs.

To enhance the quality of the implementation of notarial law education by building facilities and infrastructure that can optimize all existing resources to produce graduates who are reliable, responsible, have integrity, and high morality.
To expand cooperation with various relevant national, regional, and international institutions in the context of institutional development.
To develop legal research in the fields of notarial, land, and business laws in accordance with the development of society and the dynamics of law in the field of notarial and land laws as an effort to enhance the quality of educators and students so as to be able to make a higher contribution to national legal development.
To organize community service activities to increase public knowledge of legal norms, particularly those related to applicable notarial and land laws and encourage people to have a better legal culture.

IMMK USU is a student organization within the Master's Program in Notary that was formed to unite students, explore creativity and self-potentialism, strengthen friendship and togetherness, and develop social responsibility.
