Master's Program (S-2)

The Master's Program in Law Studies of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is an advanced education for those who have earned a Bachelor of Law degree. First opened in 1987, this program is the oldest master's program at Universitas Sumatera Utara. With a focus on the application of legal teachings, doctrines, and theories, students are expected to be able to apply legal knowledge with logical, critical, systematic, and creative thinking so as to become qualified experts in the field of law.

This program's mission is to form students as the next generation of law in Indonesia. Graduates of the USU Master's Program in Law Studies have great opportunities for careers as competent notaries, lawyers, and prosecutors in their fields. The Master of Law (M.H.) degree obtained by students who complete this study program is clear proof of their ability to understand and apply law studies in the professional world.

History

1987

The Law Studies Study Program was first opened on August 13, 1987, in the form of the UGM-USU S-2 PK with only one concentration of science, namely Civil Law.

1992

The study program was managed independently by USU on November 17, 1992, based on the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education Number 509/Dikti/KEP/1992. In line with economic development in the era of globalization and the demands of society, the Master’s Program in Law Studies developed itself by opening concentrations in criminal law, constitutional law, Islamic law, and specialty classes in economic law.
