Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), once again welcomed an international speaker, Prof. Jin-Ho Shim, a Professor from Silla University, Busan, South Korea. Prof. Jin-Ho Shim served as the keynote speaker in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) themed “How Have Women’s Roles and Creativity Evolved in Korea?”, held at the Faculty Advisory Council Room (DPF) of FH USU.

 

FH USU-Public Relations: Wednesday (28/01/2026), the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), once again welcomed an international speaker, namely Prof. Jin-Ho Shim, Professor from Silla University, Busan, South Korea. Prof. Jin-Ho Shim served as a speaker in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the theme “How Have Women’s Roles and Creativity Evolved in Korea?”, held at the Faculty Advisory Council Room (DPF) of FH USU.

 

 

The arrival of Prof. Jin-Ho Shim at FH USU was directly welcomed by the Dean, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum, together with Vice Dean I Dr. Agusmidah, S.H., M.Hum, Vice Dean III Dr. Mohammad Ekaputra, S.H., M.Hum, the Dean’s Expert Staff for Academic Affairs Dr. Eva Syahfitri Nasution, S.H., M.H, the Dean’s Expert Staff for Student Affairs and Alumni Dr. Robert, S.H., M.Hum, and the Dean’s Expert Staff for Public Relations, Boy Laksamana, S.H., M.Hum.

 

 

The Dean of FH USU, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum, in his remarks stated that this activity is part of FH USU’s commitment to encouraging the internationalization of academic activities. “Legal challenges in the future are increasingly global and interconnected. Therefore, cross-country academic cooperation is an unavoidable necessity,” said the Dean.

 

 

The Dean of FH USU expressed his hope that this meeting would become a starting point for more concrete, sustainable, and impactful cooperation between USU and Silla University. Such cooperation may include joint research, collaborative scientific publications, lecturer and student exchanges, as well as the development of other academic programs that are relevant to the needs of both institutions.

 

 

The focused group discussion, which was attended by lecturers as active participants, began with a triggering issue delivered by Dr. Rosmalinda, S.H., LLM as the discussion opener, guiding the discussion and encouraging active participation from the participants. Dr. Rosmalinda conveyed that the theme raised in this discussion has a very close relationship with legal studies, especially in understanding how law interacts with social change, gender dynamics, and cultural transformation in a society.

 

 

In his presentation, Prof. Jin-Ho Shim invited the discussion participants to observe how changes in women’s roles and the development of creativity in Korea are influenced not only by economic and educational factors, but also by cultural constructions, state policies, and legal frameworks that have evolved over time.

 

 

The discussion took place dynamically and productively, with participants showing great enthusiasm in exploring information and inspiration, as well as sharing knowledge and experiences for the development of more inclusive and contextual legal research and thought.
