FH-USU PR: On Thursday (15/08/2024), the Faculty of Law of Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU) held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) activity on 2 (two) research that won the research grant from the Directorate of Research, Technology, and Community Service (DRTPM) for the 2024 Fiscal Year, located in the Faculty of Law's Faculty Advisory Council (DPF) room.
The two research that won the research grant winners from the Directorate of Research, Technology, and Community Service (DRTPM) for the 2024 Fiscal Year consist of a research in writing a dissertation titled "Provision of Restitution for Victims of Human Trafficking Crime in the Perspective of Fulfilling the Principles of Justice," with Dr. Mahmud Mulyadi, S.H., M.Hum as the Chief Researcher, and as Research Team Members are Dr. Mohammad Ekaputra, S.H., M.Hum and Rina Melati Sitompul, S.H., M.H (Student of the Doctoral Program in Law Studies of USU), and another research in writing a thesis titled "Criminal Law Policy on the Provision of Restitution to Victims of Serious Maltreatment" with Dr. Mahmud Mulyadi, S.H., M.Hum as theChief Researcher, and Research Team Members are Dr. Rosmalinda, S.H., LL.M and Fahrizal S. Siagian, S.H (Student of the Doctoral Program in Law Studies of USU).
The Dean of the Faculty of Law of USU, represented by Vice Dean II, Puspa Melati, SH. M.Hum, in her speech, thanked the participants for their presence in helping to provide source material for our two students, who the Supervising Lecturer will assist as the Chief Researcher, Dr. Mahmud Mulyadi, SH. M.Hum. Vice Dean II expressed her pride in the success of the two research on receiving funding from DRTPM for the 2024 fiscal year. "As with the two research that received assistance in writing the dissertation and the thesis, if we refer to the titles and concepts to be investigated, restitution represents a legal breakthrough in reform for victim protection. The law must evolve towards a greater focus on victim protection," said Vice Dean II.
The Chief Researcher, Dr. Mahmud Mulyadi, SH, M.Hum, explained that the concept of sentencing, which initially adhered to a disciplinary approach, has shifted towards restorative justice to address issues concerning common interests, particularly involving community participation. "These two studies will try to find the obstacles and opportunities for synergy in fulfilling restitution, which will later be presented as the results of scientific research from the Doctoral and Master's Programs in Law," said Dr. Mahmud Mulyadi. Furthermore, Dr. Mahmud Mulyadi noted, "As a supervisor, I aim to maximize essential aspects in refining legal objectives. The participants in the activity are the core informants, where researchers will later explore field understandings of efforts to achieve the optimal restitution payment process, said Dr. Mahmud Mulyadi in his closing speech.
Participants in the focused discussion activities were High Judge Dr. Liliek Prisbawono, S.H., M.H, Head of the Sub-Directorate for the Protection of Women and Children (Kasubdit Renakta) AKBP S. Samosir from the North Sumatra Regional Police, Erwin Nababan from the Lubuk Pakam District Court, Cakra Parhusip from the Stabat District Court, Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit of the Medan City Police, Adjunct Police Commissioner (AKP) Dearma, M. Yandre from the Stabat Prosecutor's Office, Viviani Parhusip from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSP), Yandre from the Stabat Prosecutor's Office, Viviani Parhusip from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) Medan, Irvan Safutra from the Legal Aid Institute (LBH) Medan, and several academic representatives from universities throughout Medan City.
