The Master's Program in Law Studies (MIH), Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), successfully held a Guest Lecture on a highly relevant topic, “International Law and Its Current Relevance,” featuring Assoc. Prof. Akmal Handi Ansari Nasution, S.H., LL.M. from Jindal Global Law School, India. The event took place at Lecture Room A1, H. Anif Building, attended by lecturers and postgraduate law students of USU.

Public Relations of FH-USU: Wednesday (October 1, 2025) — The Master's Program in Law Studies (MIH) of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU) successfully organized a Guest Lecture titled “International Law and Its Current Relevance.” The event, held at Lecture Room A1, H. Anif Building, was attended by lecturers and postgraduate students of the Master's Program in Law.

 

The session featured Assoc. Prof. Akmal Handi Ansari Nasution, S.H., LL.M. (Jindal Global Law School – India), is a distinguished practitioner and academic specializing in international law. In his presentation, he provided an in-depth discussion on the dynamics of international law, the challenges of its application in the context of contemporary global issues, and the role of developing countries in shaping global legal norms. In exploring “International Law and Its Current Relevance,” he emphasized the importance of understanding critical schools of thought such as the Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL). He noted that any modern discussion of international law must include such critical perspectives to achieve a comprehensive understanding.

 

The event was officially opened and attended by Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Law USU, Dr. Agusmidah, S.H., M.Hum., who underscored the importance of developing a comprehensive understanding of international law. Also present was Dr. Mahmud Mulyadi, S.H., M.Hum., Secretary of the Master's Program in Law Studies, who expressed appreciation for the event as a valuable effort to enhance the academic quality of the program.

 

The lecture proceeded engagingly and interactively, moderated by Dr. Rosmalinda, S.H., LL.M., a lecturer at the Faculty of Law USU. The lively discussion particularly focused on the intersection between formal international law and global political realities. This Guest Lecture is expected to provide new perspectives and enrich the knowledge of postgraduate law students on current international legal issues, while also encouraging further research in this field.
