The Constitutional Law Student Association of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (PERMATA FH USU) has just held a legal seminar entitled "Exploring the Nature of the Constitutional Court Decision". This activity took place in a hybrid manner, utilizing the Zoom platform. It was also held at the DPF FH USU Building, along with the inauguration of the new PERMATA FH USU management for the 2024/2025 period.
The seminar was opened with remarks by Dr. Eka N.A.M Sihombing, S.H., M.Hum, Lecturer in Constitutional Law, Faculty of Law, USU, and Chair of the Association of Constitutional Law and State Administrative Law Lecturers. He conveyed the importance of adding discourse on Constitutional Law in the public space so that the public becomes more familiar with Constitutional Law. He also added the importance of future collaboration in holding activities like this again.
The Chair of PERMATA FH USU, Gray Anugrah Sembiring, expressed his hope that this seminar would explain the importance of implementing the Constitutional Court decision in the legal system. "We want the essence of the Constitutional Court's decision to be understood and implemented correctly. This is not only for students but also for the wider community," he said enthusiastically.
This seminar featured two experienced speakers: Dr. I Dewa Gede Palguna S.H., M.Hum, a former Constitutional Court judge from 2003 to 2008 and 2015 to 2020, and Dr. Mirza Nasution S.H., M.Hum, a lecturer in Constitutional Law at the USU Faculty of Law. Dozens of students from various organizations at the Faculty of Law also enthusiastically participated in this event.
In his presentation, Dr. I Dewa Gede Palguna emphasized that a deep understanding of the Constitutional Court's decision is vital for law students. "The Constitutional Court's decision is final because the Constitutional Court is the interpreter of the Constitution. Dr. I Dewa Gede Palguna comprehensively explained the historical background of the Constitutional Court's birth and the theoretical basis for why the Constitutional Court's decision is final and binding.
Likewise, Dr. Mirza Nasution S.H., M.Hum, said we still have so many problems in the law because law enforcers have no common concept in viewing the law. So we need a law enforcer, he said. Meanwhile, the inauguration of the new PERMATA FH USU management was carried out by Gabriel Napitupulu, Chair of PERMATA FH USU for the 2023/2024 period, by reading the decree on the appointment of the PERMATA FH USU management for the 2024/2025 period. The inauguration took place solemnly, marking the beginning of Gray Anugrah Sembiring's leadership. He expressed his commitment to bringing the organization in a better direction. "We will continue existing programs and also create new initiatives, such as public discussions, thesis reviews, and infographic creation. We want constitutional law to be closer to the community," Gray confidently explained.
