Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) officially inaugurated Prof. Dr. Maria, S.H., M.Hum, as a Permanent Professor in Law in the Faculty of Law, USU. The inauguration ceremony, held at USU Student Center, featured a speech by Prof. Dr. Maria, S.H., M.Hum, titled “Customary Land of Customary Law Communities: Between Hope and Reality”.

Prof. Dr. Maria, S.H., M.Hum began her career as a teaching staff of the Faculty of Law, USU (FH USU), starting in 1986, assigned to the Department of Civil Law Specialization in Customary Law. She has served as an Expert Staff to the Dean of FH USU from 2005-2013.

From 2010 to 2011, she contributed as a supervisor for PUMC in the USU Postgraduate Program. She served as the Procurement Officer of FH USU from 2013 to 2019 and earned a Mediator Certificate from the Indonesian Supreme Court in 2011. Prof. Maria also served as Treasurer of the Legal Aid Consultation Institute (LKBH) in 2016. From 2019 to 2021, she held the position of USU Commitment Making Officer (PPK).

Prof. Maria actively contributes to various professional organizations, including: Indonesian Lecturer Association (ADI), the Customary Law Lecturer Association (APHA), the Civil Law Lecturer Association (APHKI), the Civil Procedure Law Lecturer Association (ADHAPER), and the Regional Notary Supervisory Council (MPD) Binjai, Langkat and Medan City.

In the midst of her busy schedule as a Lecturer at FH USU, Prof. Maria remains deeply engaged in research and community service. She has authored numerous scientific articles published in various reputable national and international journals indexed in Scopus. Her expertise is frequently sought after as a resource person and expert witness in various court cases in Indonesia.
