HUMAS FH-USU: SaFH USU PUBLIC RELATIONS: Saturday (30/08/2025), in the framework of fulfilling the Tri Dharma of Higher Education duties in 2025, a lecturer from the Faculty of Law of Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), Agusmidah, S.H., M.Hum., participated in a National Seminar organized through collaboration among several universities in Indonesia. The seminar, titled “The Human Rights Dimension in the Holistic Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) and Their Families in the Draft Bill on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers,” was held at the Pandopo Hall of the Regent of Dompu, Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday, 30 August 2025.
The seminar brought together various national figures, academics, and regional officials, with participants from diverse backgrounds including students, lecturers, village officials, non-governmental organizations, and families of Indonesian migrant workers.
The seminar was opened with remarks from the Chairperson of the Dompu Regency Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Muttakun, as well as remarks from the Regent of Dompu, Bambang Firdaus. Both emphasized the importance of synergy between local governments, academics, and the community in providing comprehensive protection for Indonesian migrant workers, both domestically and abroad.
Serving as the keynote speaker was Fithriatus Shalihah from Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, who is also a board member of Perkumpulan Pusat Pengkajian Hukum Ketenagakerjaan Indonesia (P3HKI). She emphasized the necessity of adopting a Human Rights–based approach in the formulation of regulations and policies concerning the protection of Indonesian migrant workers.

The discussion, moderated by Ahmad Anshori, S.H., M.Hum., CLA, CLS from Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Hukum Gunung Jati Tangerang, who is also a board member of Perkumpulan Pusat Pengkajian Hukum Ketenagakerjaan Indonesia (P3HKI), took place interactively. Participants actively raised questions and shared experiences related to challenges in the protection of Indonesian migrant workers in the field.
Through this activity, it is expected that a shared understanding and strategic formulation will be developed to strengthen the draft Bill on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, ensuring that Indonesian migrant workers and their families receive truly holistic protection from legal, social, and economic perspectives. The event concluded with a reaffirmation of cross-sector collaborative commitment to ensure that the rights of Indonesian migrant workers, regarded as the nation’s foreign exchange heroes, remain upheld and optimally protected.
