HUMAS FH-USU: On Thursday (25/06/2026), the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), held a Public Discussion as part of the Working Visit of the Special Committee (Pansus) of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) concerning the Draft Law (RUU) on Private International Law (HPI). The event took place at the Moot Court Building of the Faculty of Law USU.

During this working visit, the Directorate General of General Legal Administration also accompanied the Special Committee on the Private International Law Bill throughout the working visit and public discussion with stakeholders in the North Sumatra region.

This working visit was part of the agenda for Session Period V of the 2025–2026 Legislative Year, during which members of the DPR RI Special Committee conducted working visits to four regions, namely West Nusa Tenggara, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, North Sumatra, and Central Java, involving stakeholders in each respective region. For the North Sumatra region, FH USU was entrusted as the collaborating partner in organizing the public discussion.

The activity also served as a platform for meaningful public participation in the legislative process of the Private International Law Bill, as mandated by Law Number 12 of 2011 concerning the Formulation of Laws and Regulations, as most recently amended by Law Number 13 of 2022. Through this forum, relevant stakeholders were able to provide constructive input to improve the Private International Law Bill, ensuring that the resulting legislation truly reflects public needs, a sense of justice, and national interests.

The public discussion was officially opened by the Vice Dean I of FH USU, Dr. Agusmidah, S.H., M.Hum. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Hasim Purba, S.H., M.Hum., Professor of Civil Law at FH USU, participated as one of the speakers in the discussion on the substance of the Private International Law Bill.

The working visit was attended by 13 members of the DPR RI Special Committee representing various parliamentary factions, namely: Martin D. Tumbelaka (Partai Gerindra Faction), Prof. Dr. Yasonna H. Laoly, S.H., M.Sc. (PDI-P Faction), Dr. H. M. Nasir Djamil, M.Si. (PKS Faction), Hj. Dewi Juliani, S.H., M.H. (PDI-P Faction), Dr. Marinus Gea, S.E., M.A.K. (PDI-P Faction), Dr. Maruli Siahaan, S.H., M.H. (Partai Golkar Faction), Mangihut Sinaga, S.H., M.H. (Partai Golkar Faction), Bimantoro Wiyono, S.H. (Partai Gerindra Faction), Ir. M. Shadiq Pasadigoe, S.H., M.M. (Partai NasDem Faction), H. Mafirion (PKB Faction), Abdullah (PKB Faction), Drs. H. Adang Daradjatun (PKS Faction), and Dr. Hinca IP Pandjaitan XIII, S.H., M.H., ACCS (Partai Demokrat Faction).

Through this activity, FH USU hopes to make a tangible contribution to the national legislative process, particularly in the formulation of the Private International Law Bill, which will serve as an important legal framework for resolving civil law issues involving cross-border elements.
