FH-USU Public Relations: Wednesday, 30 April 2025, the Faculty of Law of Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU) commemorated its 71st Anniversary by holding a scientific oration themed “Law and Morality in the Swirl of Suspicious Financial Transactions: A Critical Perspective on the Role of PPATK as Guardian of Financial Integrity,” featuring the Head of PPATK, Dr. Ivan Yustiavandana, S.H., LLM. The event took place at the FH USU Moot Court Building.
In his remarks, the Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., stated that the theme was highly relevant to contemporary legal challenges, which are not only normative but also require moral reflection. According to him, the scientific oration served as a reminder that the integrity of the national financial system must be safeguarded through regulation and ethical values instilled at the university level.
Furthermore, the Rector emphasized that the 71st Anniversary marked a reflective moment for FH USU to reaffirm the three main pillars of legal science development: morality, collaboration, and future enlightenment. These three pillars are expected to guide legal education to become more adaptive to global dynamics.
Meanwhile, the Dean of FH USU, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum., added that the oration’s topic strongly supports the direction of strengthening the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. According to him, changes in legal paradigms due to technological and globalization developments demand moral and intellectual readiness from all academic community members.
In his oration, Dr. Ivan Yustiavandana elaborated that money laundering has been growing massively, in line with the rapid advancement of technologies such as fintech and cryptocurrency. According to him, the involvement of the academic community, including students and lecturers, is crucial in building a stronger ecosystem for preventing money laundering.
The Chair of the 71st Anniversary Committee of FH USU, Erni Ariyanti, S.H., M.Kn., represented by Muhammad Akbar Siregar, S.H., M.H., reported that the series of events had been taking place since February 2025, including various seminars, alumni teaching programs, and internal competitions. He emphasized that all these activities aimed to make FH USU a center for legal collaboration and enlightenment for the community.
