USU Faculty of Law PR: The Faculty of Law of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU) again collaborated with O.P. Jindal Global University to present Guest Lecture activities by presenting Assistant Professor Aashish Yadav. This activity was held online for 3 meeting sessions on the topic of International Law Perspective on Refugees, Nationality, and Statelessness, guided by Annisa Hafizhah as the Host Lecturer.
In the first meeting held on Saturday (9/3/2024), Aashish Yadav introduced the students' basics of international refugee law. Starting from its background and development to various conventions governing refugees such as the 1951 Refugee Convention, 1967 Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees, some essential jurisprudence, to various other complementary regulations. Of course, students were also introduced to the UNHCR and how refugees in Indonesia and India currently exist.
The lecture then continued at the second meeting (Saturday, 16/3/2024), explaining the legal basics related to nationality and statelessness. This time, students were invited to express their opinions about nationality and statelessness by using a mentimeter as a means of interaction. Of course, Aashish Yadav gave a complete and exciting explanation of the relationship between statelessness and refugees.
Still using the mentimeter tool, at the third meeting (Saturday, 23/3/2024) Aasish Yadav started the lecture by asking two questions to students, namely about the refugee's country of origin and the refugee's destination country. Furthermore, Aashish Yadav focused on explaining the current challenges related to migration and statelessness. Closing the Guest Lecture series, Aasish Yadav gave a message to students to be concerned about the condition of refugees and be more concerned with the issue of statelessness.
