Afaka VII, Tanjung Mulia Ilir Village, Medan Deli District, Medan City.
The legal counseling event, attended by local community members, began with opening remarks from the Dean of FH USU, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum., who explained the purpose and objectives of organizing the legal counseling and social service. He reiterated the importance of this event as a form of FH USU's care for the community by providing legal education and social service, which included distributing staple foods, for the 71st Anniversary of FH USU.
The event was also attended by the Coordinator of the Legal Counseling and Social Service Division of the 71st Anniversary of FH USU, who is also an alumnus of FH USU Class of 2008, namely Fajri Akbar, S.H. and division member M. Akbar Siregar, S.H., M.H.
The legal counseling session was moderated by Dr. Robert, S.H., M.H., and the material was then delivered by Barran Hamzah Nasution, S.H., M.C.L. interactively to the community. In his presentation, he explained that the development of information technology has brought significant progress to global society, including Indonesia. However, behind this progress lies a serious threat that can be disruptive, namely hoaxes and disinformation. Mr. Barran also explained that a hoax is false or misleading information spread intended to influence public perception or cause confusion. Disinformation, on the other hand, is the spread of false information with malicious intent to deceive or harm others. Both often rely on the social media ecosystem, which allows information to spread rapidly without adequate validation mechanisms. This phenomenon of hoaxes and disinformation begins with the post-truth phenomenon, a condition where objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than emotions and personal beliefs. This era is marked by the weakening of factual truth and the rising dominance of information based on beliefs and emotions not supported by accurate data.
After the legal counseling session, the event continued with the social service activity of distributing staple foods to the local community. The distribution was also attended by the Dean of FH USU, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum; Secretary of the 71st Anniversary Committee of FH USU, Dr. Yati Sharfina Desiandri, S.H., M.H.; Boy Laksamana, S.H., M.Hum; Dr. Robert, S.H., M.H.; Barran Hamzah, S.H., MCL; Coordinator for the Legal Counseling and Social Service division, Fajri Akbar, S.H.; division member M. Akbar Siregar, S.H., M.H.; and other anniversary committee members.
