On Thursday (August 27, 2026), the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), received a visit from representatives of the Education and Training Agency of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia. The visit was related to the willingness of FH USU to cooperate in providing instructors as resource persons for the implementation of Training on Strengthening Criminal Law Reform under Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP) and Training on Strengthening Criminal Procedure Law Reform under Law Number 20 of 2025 concerning the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), Fiscal Year 2026.
The training is planned to be organized by the Education and Training Agency of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia from September 8 to 12, 2026, at the Medan Education and Training Center (Sentra Diklat), Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia, with a total of 150 (one hundred and fifty) prosecutors as participants.
The meeting was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Law USU, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum., accompanied by the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization of the Faculty of Law USU, Dr. Mohammad Ekaputra. Also present was a representative of the Criminal Law lecturers of the Faculty of Law USU, Dr. Marlina, S.H., M.Hum.
Meanwhile, from the Education and Training Agency of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia, the meeting was attended by the Head of the Regional Education and Training Center Control Subdivision, Zulaika Nurdiana, S.H., M.H., and the Head of Regional Education and Training Center Control Subdivision II, Dr. Hari Surachman, S.H., M.H., M.M., along with their team.
The training organized by the Education and Training Agency of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia aims to improve the knowledge, insights, expertise, and skills of prosecutors regarding the strengthening of criminal law reform under Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP), as well as the strengthening of criminal procedure law reform under Law No. 20 of 2025 concerning the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). The intended outcome is to ensure the availability of prosecutors with adequate knowledge, insights, expertise, and skills related to the two regulatory reforms.
This education and training program is designed with a total of 44 Learning Hours (JPL), with instructors from various backgrounds, namely structural and functional officials within the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia, legal academics/practitioners, training instructors, instructors from other institutions, and experts according to curriculum needs.
The training participants consist of Heads of the General Crimes Section/Team for the Supervision and Security of Government and Development (TPUL) under the Assistant for General Crimes (Aspidum) at the High Prosecutor's Office, as well as Heads of General Crimes Sections, Heads of Special Crimes Sections, Heads of Subsections, and Functional Prosecutors at District Prosecutor's Offices throughout Indonesia.
The cooperation between the Education and Training Agency of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia and the Faculty of Law USU in organizing this training is one of the concrete forms of FH USU's contribution to strengthening the capacity of law enforcement officials, particularly in understanding and implementing reforms to substantive criminal law and national criminal procedure law introduced through the new Criminal Code (KUHP) and Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).
