The Central Authority and International Law (OPHI) of the Directorate General of General Legal Administration, Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU) held a Dissemination of Cross-Border Law Enforcement through the Extradition Mechanism and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters (MLA), at the Faculty Advisory Council (DPF) room of FH USU.

The Central Authority and International Law (OPHI) of the Directorate General of General Legal Administration, Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), held a Dissemination of Cross-Border Law Enforcement through the Extradition Mechanism and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters (MLA), at the Faculty Advisory Council (DPF) room of FH USU.

 

The event began with the opening, which was opened directly by the Dean of FH USU, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum, together with the Director of OPHI, represented by Associate Expert Legal Analyst, Mohammad Fajar, S.H., M.H. This dissemination activity presented a speaker from FH USU International Law Lecturer, Dr. Jelly Leviza, S.H., M.Hum and speakers from OPHI Ditjen AHU namely Ramano Sitompul, S.H., M.H. and Paskalis Wahyu Haryawan, S.Pi. The dissemination was guided by USU Faculty of Law Lecturer Rini Anggreini. S.H., M.H., who acted as moderator.

 

Resource person Paskalis Wahyu Haryawan, in his presentation entitled Cooperation in Cross-Border Law Enforcement through the Extradition Mechanism, conveyed several matters relating to the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights as the central authority in terms of handling MLA and Extradition. Resource person Romano Sitompul, S.H., M.H., with material entitled MLA Mechanisms and Challenges, explained the legal basis for the scope of MLA cooperation both in national provisions, international conventions, as well as in bilateral agreements and regional agreements.

 

Meanwhile, resource person Dr. Jelly Leviza, S.H., M.Hum, with material entitled Extradition, started her presentation with the definition of extradition and MLA, the history and legal basis of extradition and MLA, then continued with an explanation of the differences between MLA and extradition, and several examples of cases of the Indonesian Government using extradition agreements.

 

At the end of the activity, a sharing session was held interactively through discussions and questions and answers between the speakers and the participants.
