FH USU PUBLIC RELATIONS: Tuesday – Thursday (2/09/2023), the Dean of the Faculty of Law of Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), Mahmul Siregar, SH., M.Hum., attended the National Seminar and National Working Meeting of the Badan Kerja Sama Dekan Fakultas Hukum Perguruan Tinggi Negeri se-Indonesia (BKS FH PTN), which was held at the Hall of Ijen Suites Resort & Convention. The Faculty of Law of Universitas Brawijaya (FH UB) was entrusted as the host of the event under the theme “AI Aspects in the Legal Science Curriculum,” while also serving as a strategic forum for the deans of state university law faculties to formulate the future direction of legal education development in Indonesia.
A total of 78 delegates from 32 Faculties of Law of state universities across Indonesia attended this regular event. The series of agendas for the National Working Meeting was held in three locations: the opening ceremony took place at Ijen Suites Resort & Convention, the National Working Meeting and National Seminar were conducted at the Faculty of Law of Universitas Brawijaya, and the closing session was held at the Agro Techno Park Universitas Brawijaya.
The working meeting was officially opened by the Chair of the Badan Kerja Sama Dekan Fakultas Hukum Perguruan Tinggi Negeri se-Indonesia, Dahliana Hasan, SH., M.Tax., Ph.D., who also serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Law of Universitas Gadjah Mada. In her remarks, she highlighted the importance of solidarity in responding to the current socio-political conditions in Indonesia, which are experiencing various dynamics that have raised public concern.
“Amid the condition that Indonesia is currently facing challenges, we remain grateful that this National Working Meeting can be carried out. However, we also consider it important to express our collective concern regarding various national issues related to justice and structural inequality,” she stated.
Through this forum, the deans of state university law faculties across Indonesia agreed on the need for a collective stance as a form of concern toward the legal and social conditions in the country. This National Working Meeting served not only as a strategic discussion platform in the field of legal education but also as a momentum to unify visions, advocate for social justice, and strengthen the role of the Badan Kerja Sama Dekan Fakultas Hukum Perguruan Tinggi Negeri se-Indonesia as an association contributing to the development of Indonesia’s legal community.
During the working meeting of the Badan Kerja Sama Dekan Fakultas Hukum Perguruan Tinggi Negeri se-Indonesia, a formal statement of position was officially issued regarding the recent situation in Indonesia. The national declaration was delivered on Wednesday (3/9/2025) at the Hall Didik Farhan and Rudi Margono, Faculty of Law of Universitas Brawijaya, Malang, East Java.
This statement of position was a response to a series of public demonstrations that resulted in casualties, injuries, damage to public facilities, and acts of looting at the private residences of several public officials in recent times.
Several points expressed in the statement of position include the evaluation of discretionary arrests of activists and tax reform.

Support for freedom of expression in public as a constitutional right that must be respected, protected, and fulfilled by the state.
Expression of concern and deep condolences for the casualties and losses resulting from riots accompanying mass demonstrations in various regions of Indonesia.
Urging law enforcement authorities to improve the law enforcement process so that it becomes proportional, substantively just, transparent, and accountable, including by evaluating discretionary arrests of activists and establishing a fact-finding team to uncover the truth and ensure justice for victims.
Appreciation for members of the academic community and society who expressed their aspirations peacefully while prioritizing national unity and cohesion.
A call for the Government to improve the legal and constitutional system to better serve the interests of the people, including reform of the taxation system and the restoration of the roles of the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the Indonesian National Police in accordance with their respective functions.
An appeal for public officials to restore their dignity as public servants and to actualize and implement the people’s aspirations in a fair and just manner in every policy they formulate.
This national declaration was part of the agenda of the National Working Meeting and National Seminar of the Association of Deans of Faculties of Law of State Universities across Indonesia (Badan Kerja Sama Dekan Fakultas Hukum Perguruan Tinggi Negeri se-Indonesia). The event was attended by approximately 32 universities with around 78 delegates, all of whom were representatives from the Faculties of Law of state universities across Indonesia.
