Hukumonline Media, in commemorating its 22nd anniversary, held a Campus Roadshow with the theme "Career Outlook for Outstanding Law Graduates" at the USU Faculty of Law. One of the Campus Roadshow activities was having a webinar entitled "A Guide for Law Students Who Want to Become Litigation and Non-Litigation Lawyers." Dean of the USU Faculty of Law, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, SH., M.Hum, had the opportunity to give a welcoming speech at this event. The webinar, from 14.00 - 15.40, was attended by students of the S1 and S2 Law study programs of the Faculty of Law.
This webinar presented relevant and competent speakers: Nien Raffles Siregar, Managing Partner of Siregar Setiawan Manalu & Partnership, and Mohammad Renaldi Zulkarnain, Partner at Assegaf Hamzah & Partners.
Through this Webinar entitled "A Guide for Law Students Who Want to Become Litigation and Non-Litigation Lawyers," it is hoped that USU Faculty of Law students who are interested in continuing their careers as lawyers can choose wisely regarding the area of practice in pursuing a career in the legal realm.
A Litigation Lawyer is a lawyer who has expertise in the field of criminal and civil procedural law. In general, the scope of work of a litigation lawyer in the criminal realm can include cases regarding corruption, money laundering, fraud, and many more. The civil realm can consist of dispute settlement through mediation, court, arbitration, or other dispute resolution institutions. The success of a litigation lawyer is usually measured by their "win or lose" in resolving a case. Meanwhile, a non-litigation lawyer or corporate lawyer is a lawyer who works and has legal expertise in the field of Corporate Law, whose scope of work includes mergers & acquisitions, foreign direct investment, banking & finance, and many more related to companies. The role of a corporate lawyer is to ensure the legality of a business transaction.
