National Seminar & Call for Poster: “Guaranteeing the Protection of Women’s and Children’s Rights in the 2025 Draft Criminal Procedure Code (RKUHAP)” — organized by the Association of Criminal Law and Criminology Lecturers (ASPERHUPIKI) in collaboration with the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU).
Criminal procedure law reform in Indonesia has entered a crucial phase with the introduction of the Draft Criminal Procedure Code (RKUHAP) 2025. For over four decades, the 1981 Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) has served as the foundation of Indonesia’s criminal justice system. However, it has yet to fully ensure the protection of the rights of witnesses, victims, and vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.
Despite the existence of laws such as Law No. 23 of 2002 on Child Protection (amended by Law No. 35 of 2014), Law No. 23 of 2004 on the Elimination of Domestic Violence (PKDRT), and Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes (UU TPKS), the guarantee of women’s and children’s rights remains inadequately accommodated, leaving them vulnerable to becoming victims of criminal acts.
