HUMAS FH-USU: The Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), continues to reinforce its commitment to improving academic quality and expanding international networks through the implementation of Visiting and Guest Lecturer programs at various partner universities abroad. This program serves as a strategic platform for lecturers to share knowledge, experience, and research outcomes with students and academics at partner institutions, while also strengthening institutional collaboration between universities.
In 2025, this initiative was represented by Dr. Rosmalinda, S.H., LL.M., a lecturer at the Faculty of Law USU. As part of efforts to enhance professional competence, the program was carried out in the form of guest lectures and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) at several leading educational institutions in Malaysia.
The first activity took place on December 17, 2025, at the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Penang. On this occasion, Dr. Rosmalinda collaborated with Dr. Angayar Kanni Ramaiah in delivering a lecture for the course Law277 Introduction to Hospitality and Travel Law. The topic presented was “Homestay Muslim Friendly Tourism Concept in Indonesia: A Comparative Analysis of the Non-Muslim Community in Danau Toba and the Muslim Community in West Sumatra.”
The following day, December 18, 2025, a guest lecture was conducted at the Faculty of Law, Universiti Teknologi MARA Shah Alam. In this session, Dr. Rosmalinda collaborated with Assoc. Professor Dr. Nadzriah Ahmad, presenting on “Child Law: The International Legal Framework for the Protection of Children’s Rights.”
The series of activities concluded with participation in an international forum titled “Roundtable Discussion on Issues Relating to Women’s Rights in Malaysia and Indonesia,” organized by the Family Law and Ethics Unit (FAME) in collaboration with the Islamic Law Department, Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia, on December 20, 2025. During this forum, Dr. Rosmalinda collaborated with Prof. Dr. Azizah Mohd. and presented material on “Issues Relating to the Protection of Women’s Rights in Indonesia.”
Overall, the implementation of the Visiting and Guest Lecturer program was highly successful and contributed positively to academic development and the strengthening of FH USU’s international network.
As a follow-up, several strategic agendas have been planned for 2026, including collaborative research in the fields of law and tourism as a continuation of research conducted from 2022 to 2025; strengthening academic connections between the Faculty of Law UiTM Shah Alam and lecturers of Customary Law at FH USU; and preparation for joint research on Marriage Law to be conducted at Universitas Sumatera Utara by lecturers from the Islamic Law Department, Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia in July 2026.
Through this program, the Faculty of Law USU aims to further expand international collaboration and enhance the quality of the university’s tridharma, particularly in education and research.
