In commemoration of the 63rd Anniversary of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara, the Faculty of Law of USU, held a Journal Internationalization Workshop. The workshop, held for two days, from 13 to 14 January 2017, gave birth to a new journal called the "USU Journal of Legal Studies." It is based on the Open Journal System (OJS) and can be accessed via the website http://jurnal.usu.ac.id/index.php/UJLS.
The invited speakers at this workshop were Prof. Dr. Irwansyah, S.H., M.H who is also an Editor in Chief of the Hasanuddin Law Review Journal, Universitas Hasanuddin, and also a Reviewer and Assessor of Scientific Periodical Journals, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. Another invited speaker was Ahsan Yunus, SH., M.H., the Managing Editor of the Hasanuddin Law Review Journal, Universitas Hasanuddin. In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Law of USU, Prof. Dr. Budiman Ginting, S.H., M.Hum, welcomed the birth of this new journal, which is expected to compete in the international world. Prof. Dr. Irwansyah, S.H., M.H., in his welcoming speech, said that the OJS-based Journal is handy for lecturers and students and increases the credibility of a faculty.
As a supervisor, Prof. Irwansyah said that this journal must be able to get an index in a well-known index institution, namely Scopus, and this requires cooperation and enthusiasm for writing from the entire journal team, lecturers, and students. This OJS-based electronic journal (e-journal) is also expected to be useful for its readers, whoever they are, not only for the USU Faculty of Law alone but also for the world. For this reason, the e-journal has a blind reviewer system, which means that the author does not know who will access and edit his article and makes edits directly through the e-journal website. The OJS-based e-journal also has an online system that can track whether an article belongs to someone else or not (plagiarism) so that a clean and transparent article is created.
This Faculty of Law E-Journal will be published twice yearly, in March and October. The first launch will be held in early March 2017.
