The 3rd UITM International Conference on Law and Society (iCLaS 2023) with the theme "Legal Reform as Pillars to Sustainable Development Goals" was successfully held on 4-5 July 2023. This international conference was held through a collaboration between the University Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam Malaysia (UiTM), and the Faculty of Law, USU.
The opening of the international conference, which was held virtually, was attended by the Vice-Rector of UiTM, Prof. Dr. Hajah Roziah Janor, Dato' Mary Lim Thian Suam, Federal Court Judge of Malaysia, Associate Professor Dr. Hartini Saripan, Dean of UiTMLaw, Nor Akhmal Hasmin, Ph.D, 2nd Director of the International Conference on Law and Society 2023 (i-CLaS 2023). Meanwhile, from the USU Faculty of Law, the Dean of the USU Faculty of Law, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, SH., M.Hum, Vice Dean I, Dr. Agusmidah, SH., M.Hum, and Vice Dean III, Dr. Mohammad Ekaputra, SH., M.Hum. The USU Faculty of Law acted as co-host, participant, and moderator in this international conference. Dr. Detania Sukarja, S.H., LLM, a Faculty of Law, USU lecturer, acted as moderator in this conference.

The Dean of the USU Faculty of Law, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, SH., M.Hum, in his speech as the keynote invitee, expressed his gratitude to the UiTM Faculty of Law for being willing to collaborate with the USU Faculty of Law in the i-CLaS 2023 activity. The Dean hopes this activity will run smoothly and produce ideas for developing science and making policies and laws. Dr. Mahmul Siregar said, "Currently, human life is experiencing very significant changes; these changes produce many new lifestyles that are completely different from the previous ones; there are at least three situations in the current "era of destruction" that greatly affect human life, namely the technological revolution, climate change, and pandemic, these disruptions cause changes in human life that are different from the previous period." Furthermore, Dr. Mahmul Siregar said, "It is inevitable that the "era of destruction" has a major influence on the development of society and the laws that regulate it; these changes require laws with different paradigms if the law does not handle these changes properly, these disruptions will cause injustice, legal uncertainty, and a reduction in the potential for maximum benefits for society," said the Dean of the USU Faculty of Law.
This International Conference collaboration between UiTM Shah Alam Malaysia and the USU Faculty of Law is part of the realization of a cooperation agreement (MoU) signed some time ago. Various cooperation activities, including joint research activities and student exchange programs, have also been carried out between UiTM Shah Alam Malaysia and the USU Faculty of Law.
