The Faculty of Law of the University of North Sumatra (FH-USU) and Kyushu University Japan established scholarship cooperation. The meeting occurred in the Faculty Advisory Council (DPF) room of the Faculty of Law USU. The Japanese Consulate in Medan also supports this international collaboration between the two universities, which aims to expand educational opportunities for students to continue their studies in the master of law program at Kyushu University, Japan.
The Japanese Consul for Public Relations, Culture, and Education Division, Mr. Furunobu Koichi, and Professor in Law at Kyushu University, Professor Steven Van Uytsel, attended the visit. The Dean of the USU Faculty of Law, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum, and Chair of the Doctor of Law Study Program, Prof. Dr. Ningrum Natasya Sirait, S.H., M.Li., along with its staff, also attended the visit as the representative from USU.
During his visit, which was also attended by students and alumni of the USU Faculty of Law, Professor Steven Van Uytsel explained about the Young Leader's Program (YLP) in Law scholarship offer from Kyushu University for the master's program at the Faculty of Law as well as the promotion of the Monbukagakusho / MEXT scholarship from the Japanese consulate in Medan which the Japanese Consul presented for the Public Relations Division of Culture and Education, Mr. Furunobu Koichi.
Dean of the Faculty of Law USU, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum said “Since 2021, the Faculty of Law USU has collaborated with Kyushu University, thanks to the initiative of Prof. Dr. Ningrum Natasya Sirait, S.H., M.Li from FH USU, who collaborated with Prof. Steven Van Uytsel from Kyushu University, through this collaboration, Kyushu University offers scholarships to alumni and staff of FH USU to continue their studies in the master of law program in Japan,” said the Dean.
The Dean of FH USU hopes that information about this scholarship can be widely spread and attract the attention of alumni and faculty staff to submit scholarship applications at Kyushu University. Hopefully, this initiative will open more opportunities for Indonesian students to study in Japan and contribute as leaders in the field of law. “We hope that we can continue to socialize this information to alumni and faculty staff in the hope that many of the USU Faculty of Law alumni will take the opportunity to submit scholarship applications at Kyushu University Faculty of Law,” explained the Dean.
On the same occasion, the Dean of Law said that the agenda of this visit also included a dialog with Vice Rector III of the University of North Sumatra. This discussion explores opportunities for further cooperation between the two universities, especially in law. The dialogue is expected to strengthen academic relations and open doors for future joint initiatives. “We hope there will be cooperation between the University of North Sumatra and Kyushu University, especially with the Faculty of Law. That is our hope”, said the Dean of the Faculty of Law
