FH USU again conducted international Guest Lecture activities; this time, the Faculty of Law of the Universitas Sumatera Utara presented Dr. Mizanur Rahaman, an Associate Professor and Head of the department (Private Law) from the College of Law, American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB).


This activity, consisting of 3 sessions with an accumulated number of participants ± 220 people, carries the theme “Development as Human Rights: Theory, Practice, and Challenges.” It was held for 3 consecutive days on November 7-9, 2023, every 19.30-21.30 WIB through a Zoom meeting guided by Annisa Hafizhah, SH., MH., Lecturer of FH USU.


Through this activity, Dr. Mizanur Rahaman introduced the United Nations Declaration on the Right to Development, an international instrument that tries to provide arrangements that accommodate the interests of human rights and development in a country. Both are fundamental but often clash in their implementation.


In the first session, participants were invited to understand the concepts and theories of the relationship between human rights and development. Then, they were invited to see how practice is related to the right to development. Finally, Dr. Mizanur Rahaman explained the contemporary issues and challenges regarding human rights and development, complete with case examples from various parts of the world.
