Public Relations FH-USU: On Friday (12/01/2024), the Research Team from the Faculty of Law at Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU) conducted a visit to the Islamic Tourism Centre (Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture) in Malaysia. This visit served as field research to obtain guidance, directions, and information on the implementation of Halal Tourism policies in Malaysia's Islamic tourism.
The Research Team was led by Prof. Dr. Ningrum Natasya Sirait, SH., MLI, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Robert Sibarani MS, who is the Head of the Research Institute at USU, along with other research members, including Dr. Rosmalinda, S.H., LLM, Dr. Robert, S.H., M.H., M. Hadyan Yunhas Purba, S.H., M.H., Lesly Saviera, S.H., M.H., and Liza Hafidzah Yusuf, SH.
The entire research team from FH USU was received by the Research Team from UiTM-Branch Penang, including the Director of the Islamic Tourism Centre, Nizran Noordin, A.M.P, Director of the Research & Training Division, Nur Alyssa Coraline Yussin, along with team members Angayar Kanni Ramaiah, and the Research and Training Division team, Siti Sarah Hussin, Siti Umairah Jaafar, and Siti Nurizzati Mohamad Rafi.
The Islamic Tourism Centre expressed hope for UiTM-Branch Penang to continue collaboration with the research team and the Research Institute at USU in developing the Moslem-Friendly Accommodation Recognition (MFAR) program. This ongoing cooperation is expected to involve other potential partners in the ASEAN region, such as Vietnam and Thailand. This is based on the need for shared learning and mutual reinforcement for the Islamic tourism market in the ASEAN region, catering not only to tourists from the Middle East but also from the West, such as America, Europe, and Australia. This offer was well-received by all parties present, including the Head of the Research Institute at USU, who showed interest in implementing Halal standards in the culinary industry in Medan and the Lake Toba region, North Sumatra, in particular.
