The Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU) and the Faculty of Law, Universiti Teknologi MARA (FUU UiTM) Malaysia initiated a Carbon Trading education programme and community service in the form of tree planting at Kwala Bali Farm, Serdang Bedagai, North Sumatra.

Public Relation FH-USU: Tuesday (05/03/2024): Stepping towards quality environmental transformation, the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU) and the Faculty of Law, Universiti Teknologi MARA (FUU UiTM) Malaysia initiated a Carbon Trading education programme and community service in the form of tree planting at Kwala Bali Farm, Serdang Bedagai, North Sumatra. The focus of this initiative is to educate carbon trading as a solution to protect the environment while stimulating national economic growth.

This international community service was attended by 16 FUU UiTM students who were accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Hafsyah Idris and 5 FH USU students accompanied by FH USU Lecturer, Dr. Vita Cita Emia Tarigan, S.H., LL.M. The programme was opened with opening remarks from the Vice Dean I of FH USU, Dr. Agusmidah, S.H., M.Hum while delivering a general explanation of community service activities. Followed by environmental education entitled "Greening in Relation to Environmental Maintenance" by Prof. Dr. Ir. Abdul Rauf, M.P as a Lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture USU. Then, the presentation of "Definition, Regulation, and Benefits of Carbon Trading" was delivered by Dr Vita Cita Emia Tarigan, S.H., LL. M to the local community who attended the meeting. As a closing agenda, tree planting was carried out which was attended by both FH USU students and FUU UiTM students and accompanied by supervisors from each party.

The importance of community awareness is at the centre of this collaborative activity. Through a series of Carbon Trading educational events to the local community, both faculties endeavoured to increase the community's understanding of the benefits of carbon trading and encourage sustainable practices towards environmental sustainability. In addition to awareness raising, the next steps involve active participation in environmental projects. The result of this collaboration is expected to be concrete policy recommendations that can be implemented by the local government.

The international collaboration between FH USU and FUU UiTM creates a new momentum to address environmental challenges. This step not only shows commitment to global issues, but also shows the potential for positive change through global partnerships. FH USU and FUU UiTM hope to inspire similar initiatives in the future.
