The Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), organized a Scientific Publication Writing Clinic for Lecturers and Students of the Doctoral Program in Law, FH USU, in 2026. The activity was held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the Faculty of Law USU Advisory Council Room, Jalan Universitas No. 4, USU Padang Bulan Campus, Medan.

The clinic featured Dr. Rosmalinda, S.H., LL.M. and Dr. Syarifah Lisa Andriati, S.H., M.H. as speakers, with Siti Nurahmi Nasution, S.H., M.H. as the moderator. The activity was intended to strengthen the ability of lecturers and students of the Doctoral Program in Law to produce high-quality scientific articles with the potential to be published in reputable journals.

In her presentation, Dr. Rosmalinda, S.H., LL.M. discussed the process of developing legal research findings into scientific articles, including identifying legal issues, formulating research questions, identifying the research gap, establishing the contribution or novelty, and preparing articles with a systematic scientific structure. The material also emphasized the importance of distinguishing the contribution of an article from the contribution of a dissertation for doctoral students.

Meanwhile, the material on strategies for publishing in Scopus-indexed journals provided an understanding of selecting topics that are significant, novel, feasible, and publishable, as well as the importance of research questions, research gaps, and novelty in developing scientific articles.

Participants also received guidance on preparing titles, introductions, methods, results and discussion, and conclusions. In addition, the clinic discussed strategies for selecting target journals, the use of supporting tools such as Mendeley and Zotero, publication ethics, similarity checking, and ways to respond to comments from reviewers.

Through this activity, FH USU encouraged the improvement of the academic capacity of lecturers and students in producing scientific publications that make scholarly contributions, meet academic writing standards, and contribute to strengthening research records and international academic networks. Publications in reputable journals are also expected to increase research visibility and strengthen the academic reputation of researchers and institutions.

The FH USU Scientific Publication Writing Clinic 2026 is part of the Faculty of Law USU's ongoing efforts to build a scientific publication culture and improve the quality of academic works produced by lecturers and students, particularly in producing legal articles with clear novelty, research gaps, and contributions.
