The 2026 New Student Campus Life Orientation Program (PKKMB) at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), was officially held over three consecutive days, from Wednesday (August 12) to Friday (August 14). As part of the welcoming program for new students, the activity was designed to introduce the academic environment, foster national character, and equip students with information about campus services.

Day One: University-Level Opening Ceremony

The 2026 PKKMB series began on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, with an opening ceremony at the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Twin Field, starting at 6:30 a.m. WIB. Following participant registration, the event continued with the singing of Indonesia Raya, the USU March and Hymn, a prayer, and remarks from Angga Harahap, Chair of the USU Student Executive Board (BEM USU). This was followed by a report on the 2026 USU PKKMB activities delivered by Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., Vice Rector I of USU, and remarks from Jenderal Polisi (Ret.) Drs. Agus Andrianto, S.H., M.H., Chair of the USU Board of Trustees.

The ceremony reached its highlight with remarks and directions from the USU Rector, followed by the official opening of PKKMB by the university leadership and the handover of new students from the university to the respective faculty deans. The new students were then mobilized to their respective faculties to participate in faculty-level welcoming activities.

FH USU students joined a procession toward the Faculty of Law. During the activity, the committee directed the students and maintained order along the designated route. The procession was filled with a spirit of togetherness through chants and various forms of encouragement until the students arrived at FH USU.

The faculty-level welcoming session began with the screening of a faculty profile video, followed by remarks from Muhammad Mardansyah Siregar, Chair of the 2026 FH USU PKKMB Committee. Further remarks were delivered by Afif Hauzaan Abid, Chair of BEM FH USU for the 2024/2025 period, followed by Dr. Affila, S.H., M.Hum., Head of the Undergraduate Law Study Program.

The faculty opening ceremony concluded with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum., who presented the faculty's vision and mission, introduced the faculty leadership, and highlighted student achievements and faculty innovations in the implementation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi).

Also in attendance were the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Alumni Relations, Dr. Agusmidah, S.H., M.Hum.; Vice Dean for Administration, Finance, Human Resources, and Infrastructure, Dr. Zulfi Chairi, S.H., M.Hum.; Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization, Dr. Mohammad Ekaputra, S.H., M.Hum.; and Secretary of the Undergraduate Law Study Program, Boy Laksamana, S.H., M.Hum.

The first day also featured introductory sessions, including a presentation by the Regional Revenue Agency (BAPENDA) and four main sessions focusing on national character and higher education:

  • Session I – Fostering National Character, Global Leadership, and National Defense Awareness in Civic and National Life, as well as Strengthening National Identity, delivered by Erna Herlinda, S.H., M.Hum.
  • Session II – Transformation of Indonesia's Higher Education System in the 21st Century: Strengthening Academic Excellence, Innovation, and Globally Competitive Character, delivered by Siti Khairunnissa, S.H., M.H.
  • Session III – Transformation of Higher Education in the Digital Era, Industrial Revolution, and Society 5.0: Strengthening Academic Literacy and Innovation, delivered by Dr. Aftah, S.H., M.Hum.
  • Session IV – Strengthening the Character of Excellent Students with a Global Competitiveness Orientation, delivered by Dr. Fajar Khairy Rizky, S.H., M.H.

The first day of the 2026 FH USU PKKMB concluded with directions regarding preparations for the second day. New students were then dismissed in an orderly manner after receiving information about the equipment and materials required for the following activities.

Day Two: Academic Preparation and Student Development Sessions

On the second day, Thursday, August 13, 2026, the program featured more technical and practical sessions designed to prepare new students for university life. Following registration and preparations, students participated in several sessions, including:

  • Student Creativity Program (PKM) session with Devi Yulida, S.H., M.H.
  • Session V – Impactful Campus and SDGs, with Barran Hamzah Nasution, S.H., M.CL.
  • Alumni Association (IKA) FH USU socialization session.
  • Student Achievement and Scholarship Program (PUSPRESMA) session with Dr. Robert, S.H., M.H.
  • Session with the Board of Professors, featuring Windi Sri Rahayu, S.Sos., Prof. Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., Dr. Eva Syahfitri Nasution, S.H., M.H., and Dr. Vita Cita Emia Tarigan, S.H., LL.M.
  • PPKS Task Force, P4GN, and Disaster Preparedness Session, providing students with awareness of sexual violence prevention, drug abuse prevention, and disaster mitigation on campus.
  • Guest Star Session, featuring Dr. Nurlely Aman, S.H., M.Kn., as part of the faculty-level activities.

One of the main agendas on the second day was the Student Activity Unit (UKM) Socialization. Various student organizations were given the opportunity to introduce their organizations and activities to the new students. The participating UKMs included SAPMA PP FH USU, BLS FH USU, ILSA FH USU, KPS FH USU, FOSIL, MUN, PETISI, MDC FH USU, GMNI FH USU, Gemar Belajar (GEMBEL), KMK FIDELIS FH USU, KMK UP FH USU, KOBAKUM, GMKI FH USU, and HMI FH USU.

Each UKM was given an allocated time to perform and introduce its activities. Through this session, new students had the opportunity to learn more about the various extracurricular activities available to them as spaces to develop their interests, talents, experiences, and organizational skills throughout their university journey.

The second day concluded with directions regarding preparations for the third day. Students were instructed to prepare the necessary equipment and leave the activity venue in an orderly manner.

Day Three: Campus Services, UKM Expo, and Closing Ceremony

The final day of the 2026 FH USU PKKMB took place on Friday, August 14, 2026, featuring a more interactive series of activities. The day began with registration, followed by a series of games conducted in groups according to each assigned team. Participants were encouraged to actively answer questions and engage in group discussions. The games were assessed based on answer accuracy, speed, and teamwork.

The program continued with socialization sessions involving sponsors and media partners, including Waiting List Coffee as the main sponsor of the 2026 FH USU PKKMB. Students also received information about scholarships from the Tanoto Foundation and the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), as well as information on the Study Plan Card (KRS) and faculty public services. The KRS session was delivered by the relevant student cohort representatives as an introduction to matters related to students' academic life.

The agenda continued with the UKM Expo, where new students could explore various student activity units available at FH USU. The expo was followed by an entertainment session, which also included the announcement of the best male participant, best female participant, and best team. The awards were accompanied by documentation as part of the appreciation for the students' participation throughout the PKKMB.

After the activities at the Faculty of Law concluded, the new students had lunch and were given time for religious observance. Students were directed to carry out religious activities according to their respective faiths and at locations designated by the committee.

The students then prepared to return to the university's central campus area. The committee directed them to organize their personal belongings and form lines before joining the procession back to the Twin Field.

The 2026 FH USU PKKMB officially concluded in the afternoon at the Twin Field, marking the end of the three-day orientation program. The activities equipped new students with national insight, an introduction to the academic environment, and information about the various services and facilities available at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara.

With the completion of PKKMB 2026, new FH USU students are expected to begin their academic journey with the character, knowledge, and institutional understanding gained throughout the three-day program.
