HUMAS FH-USU: On Friday, 10 July 2026, the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FH USU), together with the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) of North Sumatra Province, held a Democracy Consolidation Discussion entitled "Strengthening Electoral Oversight Partnerships with the Academic Community" at the FH USU meeting room.
The discussion was organized to strengthen collaboration between the electoral supervisory institution and the academic community in promoting participatory, free, and fair elections. Through this forum, participants identified and mapped current issues related to democracy and electoral governance to develop a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics, challenges, and potential vulnerabilities surrounding democratic practices and election administration.
The event was attended by the leadership of FH USU, including the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum., and the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Collaboration, and Internationalization, Dr. Mohammad Ekaputra, S.H., M.Hum.
The delegation from Bawaslu North Sumatra was led by Johan Alamsyah, S.H., M.H., Commissioner of Bawaslu and Coordinator of the Division for Violation Handling, accompanied by staff members Astri Dwi Rahayu, Erwin Arisandy, Kartini Deliana Padang, Yulia Sasmita Lestari, and Wahyuni Kesuma.
Also participating in the discussion were the Head of the Undergraduate Program in Law, Dr. Affila, S.H., M.Hum.; the Secretary of the Doctoral Program in Law, Dr. Afnila, S.H., M.Hum.; and Constitutional Law lecturer Yusrin, S.H., M.Hum.
Through this discussion, FH USU and the General Election Supervisory Agency of North Sumatra Province reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration between the electoral oversight institution and academia. The partnership is expected to encourage members of the academic community to play an active role in safeguarding democratic processes and promoting the implementation of high-quality elections in Indonesia, particularly in North Sumatra Province.
